Practice, Practice, Practice...

One of these days, it'll make perfect :) Very happy customer (you can tell they like it when they hug you on the way out ;). Its an homage to his old pink mohawk which was an homage to breast cancer awareness. Can't wait to do some more Dia los muertos inspired work. Its fun to put your own spin on the style... I stumbled upon Johnathan Koshi's printed renditions of some iconic characters earlier this year. Check 'em out. Super stylized and very ornate! -------> LINK.

Steven Colbert is making me terrified of bears.

For real... I've been having irrational nightmares about bears. Its silly. I'll chalk it up to late night Colbert Report and moonshine ;)
Hey! You know a good trick for figuring out your perfect color scheme? (Aside from scanning it into your computer and coloring it on Photoshop ;) Throw your line work on a copy machine and lighten the shit out of the image before you hit copy. Print out a bazillion of 'em! (Maybe even smaller versions to pump out some fast thumbnail versions before getting too involved with the process.) After you've finally figured out exactly what your palate craves by practicing on your copies, THEN you can throw on your white gloves and obsess over one beautiful, finished, non-smudgy, totally ready for jesus's approval, pristine, piece. ;)

Classic

I love traditional tattoos. I don't get to do them as often as I would like but, I think its going to be one of my favorite styles. Its graphic, stylized and just plain fun to do. There are a lot of different ways to incorporate your own flair to traditional pieces. I just discovered the artwork of Mike Giant and have plans to buy copious amounts of his works to adorn my booth. ;)

Punkin'!

Slow day at the tattoo shop so, I got into the holiday spirit. I freehanded the design onto my pumpkin with a sharpie (impossible to get the marks off after carving btw so, I wouldn't suggest that method to anyone wanting a "showy" piece). I carved him with some linoleum cutting tools that I had lying around the house collecting dust. Took about an hour and a half from start to finish. Really fun piece and the seeds were delicious! There are a million idiot proof recipes online in case its your 1st time baking them. Heres the one I used--------> Link*

Happy Carving!

My lil' tattoo blog.

Hello blogosphere.
My name is Kamala and I am a tattooist at Tru Blu Tatu in Bristol, PA. I've been tattooing for a few years now and am still very much a student of the craft. I wanted to create this page to serve as a platform for showcasing my work, share information about art and the industry (as its shared with me) and perhaps do a bit of ranting from time to time. I am an artist, graphic designer and tattooist. I live and work in the suburbs of Philadelphia and am originally from Clarksburg West Virginia. (I assure you, I have heard that joke about WV that just popped into your head... save it. I know... cousins, trailers, teeth, lack-there-of. You're a comic genius...I digress.)

I can't really give you a written description of my "style" of art so, you'll just have to check back and see what suits you :) I draw, paint and play with creative suite a lot. I plan to update the living hell out of this page on a regular basis... winter is coming. Slow season lurks and idle hands are the devil's plaything. I'm looking forward to using the next few months to do quite a bit of drawing and I look forward to sharing it with you!

Thanks for reading!
